Five Favorite Folks

  1. My Husband
He is so much like me, but with some stellar qualities I do not want to posses.  He can fix anything, just ask him.  He is brave beyond what I think I capable of being.
  2. My Dad
I loved that he would yell so loud at every meet I ever had.  If he missed one or two I hardly noticed, because I knew he was cheering for me anyway.  He had high standards for me and was not embarrassed at appearing ‘hypocritical,’ he was busy being a parent & wanted better for me.  I loved him first & I love him still.
  3. Uncle Lonnie
(AKA my kindred spirit) Talking to him is like reading a reading motivational book.  He can talk things through with me and is not threatened by my differing ideas.  He always has something to talk about that I am interested in, I just like talking to him every chance I get.
  4. Coach Phelps
He was better than a great coach, he was there for me when my family couldn’t be, he modeled a great attitude for life and I love his willingness to grow and change.  He was an excellent just-in-time role model.
  5. Grandma Bailey
She does not talk about people.  I mean it, at all.  Who does that anymore?  She is someone I would never want to disappoint…ever.  I think that much of her, I love her so much for not giving me everything I wanted or putting up with crap when I was a kid.  I knew she loved me as much as anyone who might have been tempted to do such things, but she made the right call not to try & solve my childhood with things/money.  I love her.

30 Days: Pro-Choice/Pro-Life

Woah…I always enjoy 30 Days, but this one was something else!

Episode Five of this season sees Jennifer, a ProChoicer, stay in a church sponsored maternity center for 30 days.  Jennifer was unbelievably calm and openminded with the people she encountered, the same could not be said for some she met in this experience.

I was upset with the premise initially, thinking this was just pro-life porpoganda.  The coverage was balanced.  Balanced. That I think was the theme of the episode.  While ProChoice offers options(choices), ProLife only offers the option of carrying the child to term and then exploring options.

This doesn’t have to do with the show, but it seems to me ProLifers are about counting bodies saved and not concerned about what happens to those bodies.  Jennifer raised quality of life issues - which I stauntly agree with - but my fav. quote “ProLife?  You ever notice how some people’s concern for life stops at birth?  They want those babies to come out & then they don’t give a damn what happens to them” Anita VanBuren (S. Empatha Merkerson) Law & Order’s Progeny episode from 1995 says it all for me.

Is Your Boss from Hell?

Not that my boss (and I am between bosses now…) could ever be considered from Hell……

However as a promotion for the movie, The Devil Wears Prada, this link will help you illustrate what YOUR boss from Hell looks like.

Post your link so I know who not to accept a job from……

Dis/Advantage of a Small Town

Advantage of living in a small town:  The local hardware store lets you take the coupling home to try it and trusts you to return to pay for it or return it.

Disadvantage of living in a small town: Your husband’s uncle dates your mom…..

Disenfranchised much?

Remember who was left behind when New Orleans evacuated?  The poorest of the poor.  Now, with NO asking for those that did flee to return the crime rate is rising quicker than citizens are returning.  The evening news wonders why….

When people are not particpating in society they probably do not feel the need to operate within the laws that society creates.  The chocolate city isn't so sweet for all its inhabitants.

4 Days, 16 Days, 36 Days….

4 Days until my hubby drives up to Michigan from Georgia…. 16 Days until we move down there…. 36 Days until I start School. I still need to paint the ceiling and walls (only primed so far) and get a carpet guy in here to ‘officially’ measure to rooms.  Hopefully this gets installed this week. I have no idea if that is feasible or not, just hoping.  Once DH gets here I will move to the upstairs and prime away……and then whatever we can get done before we move the heck outta here. Once I get down there I will unpack the house, unpack my classroom and hopefully shop for living room furniture and a kitchen table before starting school in 36 Days.

Nova’s “Dimming the Sun”

PBS scared the Hell out of me again tonight…. I watched the Nova program "Dimming the Sun" and now am conflicted about what Al's movie may or may not tell me…..before even watching it!

The most counter-intuative message was that: (paraphrasing) particulate matter decreases the sun's energy by up to ten percent, global warming is actually tempered by this phenomenon and if we were to actually take/stop making particulate in the atmosphere global warming would take off….The Greenhouse Effect has been more than half masked by the dimming effect….

The particals reflect sunlight because they are so many more particals in the clouds, the water vapors do not just accumulate and fall as percipitation, but linger as the more particals wait for more water to accumulate.  Clouds = mirrors, resulting in less sun to the surface.

Thirteen Things About Law & Order

There is a name for the L & O trademark sound, "ching-ching", which calls me to the TV.

ADA Serena Southerlyn (Elisabeth Rohm) outed Jack McCoy's "weird obsession with the clash."

ADA Serena Southerlyn outed herself as gay when DA Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson) fired her.

Wait for it, wait for it, there it is!  Lenny Briscoe delivers his wisecrack at the end of the "aftermath;" the aftermath is the opening clip before the opening credits.

Location managers aim to select for shooting based on what the scenes require.  They will select a "hub" to include a few city blocks.

The orig. Law & Order premiered 9/13/90, SVU premiered 9/20/99 and CI premiered 9/30/01, Crime & Punishment 6/1/02 - ended, Trial by Jury 3/3/05 - ended, Conviction 3/3/06 - currently ended.

Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) has experienced two ADAs being killed: Claire Kincaid (Jill Hennessy) & Alexandra Bourgia (Annie Parisse)

Ben Stone (Michael Moriarty) the ADA before Jack McCoy makes me think of the old miniseries Holocaust; I think that is why I dislike him.

Detective Partnerships: Max Greevey(George Dzundza) and Mike Logan(Chris Noth), Phil Cerreta(Paul Sorvino) and Mike Logan, Lennie Briscoe(Jerry Orbach) and Mike Logan, Lennie Briscoe and Rey Curtis (Benjamin Bratt), Lennie Briscoe and Ed Green(Jesse L. Martin) , Joe Fontana(Dennis Farina) and Ed Green, Joe Fontana and Nick Falco(Michael Imperioli), Joe Fontana and Ed Green*the only detective to return after a serious injury

Adam Schiff, the orig. DA, leaves to pursue war criminals.Lennie Briscoe's date of birth is January 2, 1940.

Steve Zirnkilton reads the opening lines, "In the criminal justice system…"

After Jerry Orbach's death my DH pointed out a newspaper picture of him in a store window near Columbus Circle, thus almost fulfilling my dream of walking by him on a NY street and nodding my head, saying "Hey," and having him respond in kind.

A quick moment of Self Pity…

DH is living in the new house, the one I'm living in is over 100 years old.

It is hotter today in MI than it will be in GA, guess who has central air?  Air in their car?

Guess who has no painting to do….while I have four + rooms……

*end scene*
